Last updated: May 2026. Short version: we collect very little, your AI keys never leave your machine, and you can opt out entirely.

CLI telemetry

The CLI has optional, anonymous usage telemetry. It is off by default. You are asked once on first run. You can change it at any time.

What is collected (when enabled)

  • Command names (e.g. chat, tasks list) — not arguments or content
  • Error codes (e.g. AUTH_FAILED, NETWORK_TIMEOUT) — not error messages
  • Response time in milliseconds
  • Baker CLI version
  • Operating system platform (macOS / Linux / Windows)
  • Anonymous session ID generated on first run — not tied to your identity

What is never collected

  • Your prompts or chat messages
  • Your AI provider API keys
  • File contents passed via --file
  • Task text or schedule prompts
  • Your IP address
  • Your email or name
  • Workspace names or content

How to opt out

$ baker telemetry off
✓ Telemetry disabled. Nothing collected.

This takes effect immediately and persists across sessions. CLI functionality is not affected.

Hosted service (app.openbaker.org)

When you use the hosted instance:

  • Your account email and hashed password are stored to authenticate you.
  • Your chat history and tasks are stored on the server to enable context across sessions.
  • Your vote choices on roadmap items are stored.
  • Your AI provider API key is never sent to or stored on the server. It remains on your machine and is used to make requests directly to the AI provider.
  • Standard server access logs (request timestamps, HTTP status codes) are kept for operational purposes and are not shared.

Website analytics

openbaker.org uses Aestimor Analytics for anonymous page view measurement. No cross-site tracking. No fingerprinting. You can decline via the cookie banner or manage preferences at any time.

Third parties

We do not sell data. We do not share data with advertisers. The only third-party data flow is: your AI provider API key, used directly from your machine to contact OpenAI, Anthropic, or whichever provider you configure.

Data deletion

To delete your hosted account and all associated data, open a GitHub issue with your email. We will delete within 7 days.
